Q: Is a B-12 supplement of 1200mcg good for energy and weight loss?
I saw a supplement bottle the other day that had 1200mcg of b-12. Most multivitamins have very little b-12, like only the daily requirement. . I am considering taking 1 multivitamin pill and 1 of these 1200mcg pills a day to help in energy and weight loss. I think it was 1200 mcg and not 1200mg.

A: I frankly find multivitamins to be a waste of money. They don’t have enough of anything you need. Forget what the fools at the FDA recommend for daily allowances.

Here are the supplements I like and have personally found highly effective:

*ginseng (Korean white is best, but also the most expensive)
*milk thistle (cleanses and restores the liver)
*Chews 4 Health
*Resveratrol Select (you can get a free trial offer for this below)
*CoQ10 (you don’t really need to worry about this until you hit age 40, but after that you should always take a CoQ10 supplement; one of the best ones is contained in Xtend-Life’s Total Balance supplement)

Q: How well does the B-12 Vitamin (Dots) work?
I have experienced for a long time now that I have no energy, I have heard alot of people take the B-12 vitamin for this main reason to give them energy. How true is this? And is there any side effects ?

A: My mom used to force me to take the B-12 dots. Long story short, they didn’t work. (There were no side effects though, although it got kinda annoying waiting for them to dissolve sometimes) What did work for me though, was the Emergen-C powder drinks. They are also high in B-12 as well as many other minerals and vitamins. However, it also depends on the person and what is causing the fatigue. I recommend using Emergen-c first (because it’s cheaper) and see if it works. If it doesn’t, dry the dots.

Q: What really happens when you get a B-12 shot at the doctors’?
I just got a call from my doctor saying that I need to come in every week for 6 weeks straight to get an injection of B-12. I guess that explained my long going fatigue, but my question is where do they inject it,and does it hurt?

A: My doctor showed me how to do it and sent me home with some syringes and a prescription for the B12… I did it myself in my leg. You can get them in your leg, stomach, or arm so if you are not comfortable with where they are injecting it, ask if they could do it somewhere else (like if they’re going to do it in your arm, ask for your leg, etc). It’s no worse than any other shot you can get, though. And it doesn’t leave that nasty ache afterword like some shots do. You might get a little bruise, but that’s about the worst of it.

Good luck! Hope they work for you!

Q: Do B-12 drops really work to give you a good burst of energy?
I found som b -12 drops in the store. They dissolve under your tongue and you take them 2x’s a day. They are 500 mg. Do they really work? Does any B-12 pills or products work and if so, what kind and where do I find them? I need something that gives me a boost of energy and I hate energy drinks.

A: No vitamin will give you a “burst” of energy. You won’t get any effect at all unless you are deficient to begin with, and that is very unlikely. (Of course the vitamin sellers will try to convince you that everyone is deficient and needs extra vitamins – but they have NO data, no proof.)
If you want a “boost of energy”, your best bet would be caffeine.

Q: How many millegrams of b-12 vitamins should be taken to loose weight?
or how many milegrams is equivenlent to the B-12 shot?

A: Are you sure that B-12 is a weight loser. Check out the web site of WebMd. I use liquid B-12 for my heart.

I am not a Doctor.

Q: What are some of the side effects of a very low vitamin B-12 level?
I have had radiation and now have a very low B-12 blood level.
I am told the this can result in pain associated with neuoropothy but is often misdiagnosed as such and is in fact,
theresult of the B-12 low levels.Any help?

A: Tiredness and lethargy, anaemia.

Q: What is the Best Form of B-12 to improve energy and working memory? A B-12 Shot?
I was wondering if I should get a B-12 shot? When do you know whether to get a B-12 shot rather than a supplement?

A: There’s a complex called Feroglobin that would help, you take it every day. Otherwise, taking a small amount daily is going to be better than a one off shot full of it, which I’m pretty sure doesn’t actually exsist… not where I live anyways!
Just get a high concentrate of the vitamin B complex, or look up a particular one that would benefit you the most and get a higher concentration of that?
I take B12 because I’m anemic and generally need an energy pick me up, Feroglobin does me fine.
If you “needed” a B12 shot, a doctor would do bloodtests and then would tell you you needed that shot, if there is one. O-o

Q: Is it true that B-12 supplements containing more than 1000 mcgs of B-12 are ineffective?
*I’ve only come across one website that supports the theory that any amount of B-12 over 1000 mcgs is too large to be absorbed by the body.

*If this information is correct: 1)Should I start cutting my 2500 mcg microlozenges into four? 2)Why do they manufacture doses that large in the first place?

*Thanks in advance.

A: Doctors often use vitamin B12 (cyanocobamin), called the energy vitamin, to give an energy boost to seniors with fatigue. As we age, we’re less able to metabolize B12.
Research shows that B12 can supply extra energy

A study proved that 28 men and women who complained of tiredness but had normal serum B-12 levels and no other physical problems were treated with vitamin B12. Injections of B12 went as follows: 5000 mcg twice a day for 2 weeks followed by a 2 week rest period. The results concluded that they had improved energy levels whereas placebo had no effect.

(Ellis FR, Nasser S. A pilot study of B-12 in the treatment of tiredness. Brit J Nutr. 30:277-83, 1973).

There are no known issues of toxicity in terms of B12 consumption. When you examine multiple clinical studies on B12, the minimum dose is 100 mcg. Most doctors use varying amounts between 100 and 3000 mcg for treatment and testing. There is no better proof of the safety in B12 treatment than the experience of Dr. HL Newbold in NY. He had his patients inject themselves three times daily with triple-strength doses of B12 (9000 mcg/day) on an indefinite basis. This instance was a true pharmacological-approved B12 treatment. These patients developed serum B12 levels of 200,000 pg/ml and more, and reportedly never had any significant side effects.

The outcome? Do not fright.

Q: Is Silk soy milk fortified with B 12?
I drink Silk soy milk and was wondering if it has active vitamin B 12 in it because I know B 12 is really important to prevent anemia.
Also, a cereal (that’s vegan) that’s also fortified with active vitamin B 12?
Thank you!
Ok, thank you, but how about cereal?

A: read the label. i just read mine and it said that a cup will have 50% of daily need

Q: How to find an angle of a triangle with sides b=12 a=8 c=5 (right triangle)?
How to find an angle of a right triangle with sides b=12 a=8 c=5 what is the formula that i need to use? Thanks so much

A: hmm…..
| <-- angle c
|…
|….
|…..
|____ <---angle a

the right angle is angle b

now you know that side b is the biggest, therefore it corresponds to the right angle because that angle is the biggest.

So you cross multiply to figure out the other angles

12 (side b) … 8 (side a)
_________ x _________
90 (angle b) … X (angle a)

[excuse the "..." they wont let me put in spaces]

12X= 720

X= 720/12

X=60

then do the same for the other angle.

Q: is Nature Made brand vitamin B-12 vegan? or does it have and animal products in it?
if its not, are there any other B-12 supplements that are?

A: There is no plant that contains usable vitamin B12. Some research studies are misleading…

Here’s what I mean…

The testing that’s normally done to figure out of a food item has any vitamin B12 is to place certain microorganisms on the item and see if they grow. If they grow and colonize, there’s B12. If they don’t grow, there’s no B12.

On some plants like tempeh and spirulina, these microorganisms do grow, meaning that they have B12.

BUT, this is not a form of vitamin B12 that humans can use. What I mean is, it’s a derivative of B12 that’s not used in the same way as the normal B12 we get from animal products. It’s actually called “false B12″.

In fact, this “false B12″ can actually block B12 receptors on your cells making it impossible to absorb any true B12 that you can use.

The bottom line is that there’s no plant on Earth that contains vitamin B12 that you can use. People may be trying to sell you natural B12 that they got from plants, but it’s not the B12 your body can use. In fact, it may hinder the ability for you to utilize any B12 that you manage to get (because it’s false B12!).

With your question, I’m not sure if the Nature Made supplement is “vegan” – I looked online and couldn’t really tell what their claims are. But chances are that if it’s “vegan”, it’s not B12 that you can use effectively.

The only place we can get “natural” B12 is from animal products! In fact, even if they did get vitamin B12 from plants, you wouldn’t need to supplement, would you? You’d be getting plenty of it in your diet! (I’m assuming you’re a vegetarian).

I also noticed that the Nature Made B12 supplement contains 1000 mcg tablets. This is WAY too much!

It’s not necessary to take high-potency B12 supplements – you only need like 6 mcg (0.000006 g) of B12 per day for healthy living. And even if you don’t get that much, you’ve got a good amount stored in your liver, along with microorganisms in your intestine that synthesize the vitamin daily.

The fact is that most clinical deficiencies of vitamin B12 are due to intestinal absorption problems. All I’m trying to say is – make sure you’re getting enough B12, but definitely don’t overdo it!

It’s a waste of money to take all this extra B12 because whatever you don’t use just ends up in the urine. You can tell that you’ve had more B12 than you need by the neon-greenish tint of the urine (because B12 reflects a neon-greenish color).

The best place to get any vitamin or nutrient is in the actual food it naturally occurs in. But, in the case of vegetarians, it’s necessary to take a B12 supplement in the form of a pill or liquid. Just don’t overdo it!

Hope this helps a little!

Q: What causes a person to be low on B-12?
I have had low B-12 levels for over a 1 year now and the doctor just tells me to take B-12 by mouth. Why is it taking so long to get B-12 back in my body? I also have positive ANA but lupus is ruled out because my titor level is low.

A: Vitamin deficiencies aren’t uncommon these days. Even a balanced diet can be lacking due to soil depletion, etc… B-12 absorption is known to suffer as we age.

You may be having trouble because the suppliment you’re taking doesn’t include other nutrients necessary for the body to use B12 efficiently that would be present in natural foods. You might be taking a synthetic that isn’t readily absorbed by the body…

If you haven’t yet… I’d try a high quality multi-vitamin or B complex with a thoughtful formulation that contains vitamins from natural sources instead of synthetic when possible…. maybe some whole vitamin-rich “super foods” as well…

“Nature’s Plus – Ultra Source of Life” is a very popular multi-vitamin that contains rather large doses of vitamins (particularly B-12) in more natural forms. It also includes some raw “super foods”. Most people who try this one actually feel a difference. I take 2 capsules a day instead of the recommended 3. I skip a few days every now and then… I feel a “cleansing cycle” is good… I definitely feel a very real difference. Most notably, I feel less worn down during the day and I can actually sleep at night. I also must have been heading in the direction of having that “restless leg syndrome” because my legs always felt “tired” and “uncomfortable” in a hard to describe way at night and I did feel the need to stretch them and move them around a lot. It’s been bugging me for years and I haven’t noticed it after starting to take these. http://www.vitacost.com/Natures-Plus-Ultra-Source-of-Life-with-Lutein

“Nature’s Way Alive!” is supposed to be a similar if not better product for about half the price. I haven’t tried it yet… http://www.vitacost.com/Natures-Way-Alive-Multivitamin-Whole-Food-Energizer-No-Iron-Added-180-Tablets

EDIT: Although the B-12 dosage in both of these multi-vitamins is perfect for someone suffering a deficiency, I see the B-12 is not in the preferred form (methylcobalamin) that can be directly used by the body, but in the form of cyanocobalamin. Surprising, because many of the other vitamins in these suppliments are in natural or desirable forms. If you haven’t been taking the large (200 mcg+) dose of B-12 that’s recommended for people with a B-12 deficiency along with some complimentary suppliments, these may be an improvement for you. If you have been and you’re not seeing an improvement… maybe look for a multi or B-complex suppliment with B-12 in the form of methylcobalamin… if you’re not taking one already…

Q: Is there a Chinese herbal formula for B-12 type deficiency Anemia?
I have used Gui Pai Tang, but that formula does not work for me because it’s for the Iron deficient Anemia(which is more common)..
Which formula is good for b-12 deficency Anemia?

A: I can’t tell you what Chinese Herb to take but I can recommend going to the Herbal section of a store or Vitamin section and getting Vitamin B-12 tablets. It depends on how bad your deficiency is as to whether the tablets will work or not.
Sounds like you don’t want to take the shots! Unfortunately there aren’t a lot of options. I would try the tablets. At least try taking them for two weeks. If you notice a difference, eg: No tingling in the fingers etc. then its working. If your deficiency is really bad then you may be forced to have the shots once a month. P.S. Try eliminating stressors. I don’t know if that helps but a lot of physical malfunctions got better when I reduced my stress level.

Q: Where can i buy beyond b-12 suppliments im a vegatarian?
what store can i buy beyond b-12 suppliments??
and how much are they?

A: I went to the health food store. Told them that I needed vegetarian B12 – that I wanted sublingual to absorbed better – and I bought them.

You can find them online as well if such is easier for you.

I paid $17.00 for the bottle of 50 that I have that are 3000 mcg. each.

Q: Why am I losing weight since I started taking B 12?
I started taking it becuase I was feeling so tired, depressed, and stressed out. I’ve been having problems with trying to lose weight every since our daughter was born 9 years ago, now since I started taking this for other reasons, now I’m losing weight, why?
I never knew B 12 had anything to do with weight loss before!

A: Yes, B-12 helps your metabolism and energy. It is very helpful for stress, so you may also be craving less food. It’s good that you’re seeing the benefit of this vitamin.
