Q: B12 vitamin?
I ‘ve just read about what can happen to people who don’t get enough of this vitamin. I’ve just gone vegetarian and I’m thinking about taking supplements for B12. But what concerns me is, where do they get the B12 from to make the supplements?
But if it is extracted from animals, it’s no different than eating meat!!!!!!!!!
A: B12 does not come from an animal. It is produced by bacteria that typically live in the gut of animals that omnivores eat for food. This is why omnivores do not need to supplement. Vegan do need to supplement, but the B12 is not sourced from animals; the bacteria that produce it are grown on a sterile substrate in a lab.
Q: what are possible side effects to the b12 vitamin?
i have recently started taking b12 vitamins i purchased at wal-mart for like 3 dollars because there supposed to increase you metabolism and give you energy. they are the sublingual dots.. and i think i may take way to many of them at a time at one point i was taking about ten a day just because i didn’t think it would hurt anything. i want to know if there are any side effects to taking too many?
A: your testicles will pop and your penis will fall off…
Q: Which is the best source of vitamin b12?
Is fresh egg best source of b12 vitamin or boiled egg? And also please specify some food items that contain vitamin b12. Thanks in advance!
A: A raw egg would have only 0.4 micrograms.
3 ounces of beef liver, 95 micrograms.
3 ounces of beef kidney, 19 micrograms.
3 ounces of chicken liver, 16.5 micrograms.
3 ounces of steak salmon, 3.0 micrograms.
3 ounces of light tuna, packed in water, 2.5 micrograms.
8 ounces of nonfat plain yogurt, 1.5 micrograms.
3 ounces of lean beef, 1.4 micrograms,
3 ounces of Pacific Halibut, 1.2 micrograms,
1 cup of whole milk, 0.9 micrograms.
3.5 ounces center loin chop pork, 0.6 micrograms.
1 ounce Swiss cheese, 0.5 micrograms.
1 medium whole raw egg, 0.4 micrograms.
3 ounces of chicken (white meat), 0.3 micrograms.
1 ounce of American processed cheese, 0.2 micrograms.
All those questions about vitamins A, B2, B12 or whatever…Just have some liver once in a while and you’ll be fine.
Edit:
I like calf’s liver better. (see source)
Q: Vitamin B12 on the low side, how much is really safe to take?
The doctor told me to take 1000 mcg of B12 a day. I don’t have a deficiency yet but it’s on the low side. She seemed to think that it’s safe. But is it really safe for a 23 yr old skinny female to take that amount? Maybe, it’s not even that much. I’m just not familiar with vitamin supplements.
A: Well, the recommended daily intake of B12 is 3-6 micrograms, but a lot of food has more than that per serving. B complex vitamins are water soluble anyway which means that your body will get rid of any excess consumed and it wont be toxic even if you have too much.
Q: Is meat a better source for vitamin b12 than dairy?
Does it make any difference whether you get vitamin b12 from eggs and dairy than from meat? Is it any less effective?
A: Everyone needs to calm down and stop being so defensive.
The fact that vegetarians may need to supplement their diet with B12 does not translate into an attack on the vegetarian diet.
@Majnun99: You are correct in that B12 is made by bacteria in our gut. However, it is made past the location where B12 can be absorbed in our bodies. No absorption, no B12. Humans have to get their B12 from external sources.
Q: Why does vitamin B12 make me tired all day?
i just got these vitamin B12 chewable tablets that have like 8333% daily value and my friend said that it energizes them and sometimes keep them awake past midnight. but whenever i take them i can hardly stay awake past 10 AM (i take them in the morning like 6:30 AM) without having a couple naps.
so why are they making me tired and my friend energized?
A: Vitamin B12 (cobalamine) has no “energizing” effect on healthy people. It a whole another story if you are anemic. Your friend probably heard about someone who had vitamin B12 anemia and his doctor told him to take B12 and now he’s all “energized.” B12 is one of the few vitamins stored in the liver, so you don’t even have to worry about it running out (unless you have gastritis). If your friend is not an anemic and he feel energized after taking B12, it’s a placebo effect.
In conclusion, we’re in a recession. Don’t waste your money on useless things like that. If you really need a pick-up in the morning, try coffee or caffeine pills.
Q: What are the benefits of B12 vitamin?
I’ve taken B12 shots twice so far and it seems to help me with my levels of tolerance and patience. Placebo effect?
A: Vitamin B12 is needed to prevent pernicious anemia- a condition in which the body can’t make enough healthy red blood cells.
One important function of B12 is to aid in the production of DNA, the genetic material in all cells.
Vitamin B12 has long been known to promote normal growth and development.
Deficiencies in B12 are been known to cause nerve damage relating to loss of memory, poor concentration and abnormal sensations.
B12 supports increased energy levels and is commonly given in injection form to people suffering from chronic fatigue.
hope that helped
Q: What is the molecular weight of vitamin B12?
Each molecule of vitamin B12 contains a single atom of cobalt and is 4.35% cobalt by mass.
A: to do this, calculate what one percent of the mass is and multiply by 100:
according to my periodic table, the MM of Co is 58.93320.
divide that by 4.35% to find that 1% mass is 13.54786
multiply that 1% by 100 to get the full mas: 1354.786.
to 3 sigfigs (percentage), your answer would be 1350
for the record, Wiki states the MM of B12 to be 1355.37 g/mol
hope that helps
Q: Do vitamin B12 shots prevent or stop vomiting from drinking alcohol?
My girlfriend told me she had once drank about 10 shots of vodka and started vomiting, so her friend gave her a vitamin B12 shot in her butt and within 30 minutes she felt good and had stopped vomiting. I wonder if it works or she was lied to about it being vitamin B12.
A: The sad thing is alcoholic will say just about anything to entice you to join them in their self destruction.
When you consume that much alcohol the body is trying to get rid of, due to the fact the body is being poisoned-Alcohol Poisoning.
The B-12 would have no effect. She might of felt a bit better due to B-12 giving you energy. but was it just energy to consume more alcohol. God Bless Reggie
Q: Is sweating a lot in your arm pits a symptom of vitamin b12 deficantcy?
I sometimes sweat a lot in my arm pits. I think I remember hearing that it is a symptom of vitamin b12 deficantcy, but I took a B vitamin multi-complex and I still have the same problem
A: idk but sounds to me its a symptom of hairy pits and no deodarant.
Q: Where can you find Vitamin B12 fortified cereal?
I have to make a couple vegan desserts and they need to include Vitamin B12 in them, I cant find the cereal anywhere but I did find the recipes for it, can anyone help?
A: I don’t know about the Vitamin B12 fortified cereals. However, I do know this: B12 CANNOT be synthesized in a lab. This means ALL supplemental B12 is from an animal source (its the only place where it is found in nature). Therefore, the B12 fortified cereals are not vegan.
There is also new research out on the B12 found in nutritional yeast. Apparently, there are two types of B12. The human body uses only one of these. The type of B12 found in yeast is not the type of B12 used by our bodies.
Edit: It appears that I am wrong. The above statement is what I learned from my nutrition teacher at school. I found this on wikipeida:
“Vitamin B-12 cannot be made by plants or animals[5] as only bacteria have the enzymes required for its synthesis. The total synthesis of B-12 was reported by Robert Burns Woodward[6] and Albert Eschenmoser,[7][8] and remains one of the classic feats of organic synthesis.
Species from the following genera are known to synthesize B-12: Aerobacter, Agrobacterium, Alcaligenes, Azotobacter, Bacillus, Clostridium, Corynebacterium, Flavobacterium, Micromonospora, Mycobacterium, Nocardia, Propionibacterium, Protaminobacter, Proteus, Pseudomonas, Rhizobium, Salmonella, Serratia, Streptomyces, Streptococcus and Xanthomonas. Industrial production of B-12 is through fermentation of selected microorganisms.[9] The species most often used, Pseudomonas denitrificans and Propionibacterium shermanii, are frequently genetically engineered and grown under special conditions to enhance yield”.
So, apparently, supplemental B12 is made using bacteria, which can be consumed by vegans. I stand corrected. I apologize to any vegan I may have offended.
Q: How Can I Get Vitamin B12 WITHOUT Taking A Supplement?
I’m a Vegetarian.
I know that it is essential for me to get my Vitamin B12 WITHOUT taking daily weekly or monthly supplements. (NO PILLS WHATSOEVER!).
But, How?
Please, No answers like Vitamin Water, Or any kinf of fruit juice. -_-
(Specific answers on fruits or vegetables, and things of that nature are greatly appreciated)
Peace and Love ! <3
I’ve noticed the typo, Lol.
The word
‘KINF’
Was supposed to be ‘KIND’
lol. Please, Don’t mind that. I’m not a machine. [:
A: Spirulina. Its a seaweed that is normally found in powdered form. You can mix it in a smoothie. I like to blend it with coconut water. It is a great source of protein too!
Q: What could cause high vitamin B12 in urine?
In my annual physical urine test, vitamin B12 is always much higher than normal level. To me, it means my body cannot absorb or hold it, so it gets drained to the urine. Who knows what could cause this to happen? BTW, I’m taking prescription drugs of “Armour Thyroid” and “Fosamax”.
I appreciate for any helpful answers!
I’m taking multi-vitamins too.
A: It just means that the excess vitamin your body can’t use is being peed out. Are you taking just B-12? I thought that riboflavin was what caused the yellow urine.
I think it usually just means that it’s more than your body is using, but it’s probably something along the lines of 1000% of the RDA (Bvits are often much, much higher than the RDA and the amount in food), so you may need (probably need) somewhere in between what you’re getting from your supp and what’s in your food..
Q: Where can I find vitamin B12 shots without prescription?
I used to go to a clinic once a week for vitamin b12 shots. This clinic has since moved and I no longer have access to reliable b12 shots. I don’t want to attend 8 years of medical school to give myself shots and I don’t want to pay a doctor to do it either. Is this possible, finding the b12 without prescription and giving myself shots without a medical degree????
A: Injectable B12 isn’t available without a prescription. However, doctors are becoming more open to patients giving their own injections at home. Check with your family doctor about this. Mine was fine with it once she watched me inject myself once in her office. She wrote me a prescription that was easily filled at my local pharmacy, and it’s very inexpensive. Good luck.
Q: Vitamin B12 defiency causing ringing in the ears?
Someone told me if you don’t have enough B12 then your ears will ring. Is this true? Should I go get a multi B vitamin and start taking it?
I’ve been having mysterious ringing in my ears for six months. I’ve had my ears examined, hearing tested etc. etc. and everything looks normal.
A: Yes, vitamin B12 deficiency can cause ringing in the ears but so can thyroid disorders, prescription drugs or high blood pressure to mention a few.
