Q: How long does it take for vitamin b12 deficiency to develop?
I haven’t ate meat/fish/poultry for almost 5 months, but I noticed that lately my tongue has been tingly with everything I eat. So I thought it was sodium, but I cut back on it and I still have the same effect. My legs feel weird as if they are asleep but kind of rumbles? Is it possible to develop deficiency in such a short time? I have read articles that it wouldn’t develop till later. Should I start taking supplements now? I will be going to the doctor tomorrow, but I’m just curious. Thanks
A: Vitamin B12 deficiency on a person may appear in a different time for different people, it will depend greatly on the starting levels of the vitamin. A healthy person with a perfect amount of B12 can store the vitamin for up to 5 years.
In your case, it could be that you had low levels of this vitamin when you started your vegetarian diet. It is important though that you follow examination to determine if B12 deficiency is indeed the problem.

Q: B6 & B12 = faster hair growth?
I am trying to grow my hair longer and doing whatever i can to help the process. i have been taking B6 and B12 daily for about a week now. Iv heard that they are good for healthy hair and fast hair growth. I want to know how long it will take for the B6 and B12 to start having an effect. If anybody else has taken these vitamins and has had success with getting longer hair faster, please share your stories with me. :] thanks in advance.
A: biotin is a vitamin that helps too. also eating healthy and drinking a lot of water helps. and trim the dead ends every 6 weeks.
im trying to do the same.
Q: Sublingual B-12 takes effect in..?
How long do you have to take the sublingual b12 (liquid) for it to start making a difference?
A: Depends how depleted your Vit B12 is. It may take from several days to several months before your liver stores are replenished from oral sources, depending also how many mcgs you are taking per day (even if you are taking a few hundred mcgs orally, absorption is usually limited to just a few mcgs). Methylcobalamin is generally the preferred form of Vit B12.
Getting a B12 shot brings up levels immediately, but they may still have to be repeated once a week, once every month or couple of months, depending how quickly the level drops off again.
Q: polycysticovarian syndrome and long-term side effects from medication?
Hi,
I have been dealing with PCO for a while now. I am anxious to know if any of you are having bad side effects from the metformin you are taking? I have been. My B12 absorption is low.
I am also afraid about the long-term effects it can have on my vascular system (it increases homocysteine levels which can cause fat to deposit in vessels). What more or what else can I do? For anyone out there with PCO–how long do you plan on taking all the medication (specifically metformin)..do you believe it to be a lifelong thing?
Also, has anyone with PCO been successful in weight loss? I am struggling.
Feeling so stuck–looking for answers hopefully.

A: My doctor took me off it because of the class action law suits that where starting and some bad publicity. Its kind of a shame too because it was one of the medicines that truly helped me. Now I am back to dealing with surgeries every so many years, sometimes more then one a year.. I am sorry I couldn’t give you any encouraging news.

A: I have been taking met for almost two years now, I also have PCOS. You can go to http://www.soulcysters.net/ and talk to other women with PCOS about their experiences. I have found it very helpful.
Q: 11 day luteal phase and taking vitamin B6…?
Some of the lovely girlies on here have suggested that I take vitamin b6 to try and lengthen my LP, which is currently 11 days long.
I do have some b6 tablets in my cabinet, but they are only 10mg per tablet. How many should I take?
And, I am currently on cd14 of an approximate 37 day cycle. Is it okay for me to just start taking the B6 today? Or will it not have any effect?
Also, when taking B6 do you have to take B12 or any other vitamins as well to balance it out? Or did i just make that up?
Thanks x
A: Hiya,
Sorry, should have made last answer more thorough to cover this!
For lengthening the LP it’s recommended a dose of 100-200mg be taken daily, throughout the cycle. I took a 100mg supplement, then there was 10mg in my prenatal, plus 50mg in my magnesium supplement (I also recommend this when TTC- it’s called magnesium OK and is helps balance hormones and contains a B complex supplement which is great whenTTC anyway) so I was taking 160mg a day. Within one cycle my LP went from 11-13 days, and the following cycle I conceived my little boy, due in 11 weeks!
Remember that a lp of 11 days is adequate for a pregnancy though so don’t worry too much honey xx
Q: multivitamin overdose…?
okay so i know somebody who took 12+ one a day teen advantage pills containing vitamins b12, biotin, pantothenic acid, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, selenium, copper, manganese, chromium, vitamin C,D,E,K,b1,b2, niacin, vitamin b6 and folic acid….. what are the side effect and what could happen.. how long could it take for something to happen its been about 24 hrs since the first 3 vitamins were taken
A: You are only supposed to take one a day so if you take 12 instead of only one you are likely to get very ill and you will probably suffer from severe headaches and dizziness and throwing up for at least a day or two. You may perhaps even have some very severe convulsions. After a few days you should be OK again and it is unlikely that you would die from such a one-off overdose.
Q: How to avoid side effects with 5 hour energy?
recently i’ve taken a very heavy liking to one of the newer energy drinks on the market
“5-hour ENERGY”
before this product came out I avoided all energy drinks like the plague since they made me crash and were very unhealthy in general with big serving sizes.
but i drink this product because of how alert it makes me feel and how I can get all kinds of work done on one and it isn’t all hype either i feel like i can do more. i pay more attention in class and do things on my own at home without having to be asked by my parents.
but i’ve been drinking them on and off for about a month now and i decided to google some facts about 5 hour energy to see if something that works this well has some side effects.
i found out that “2000% daily value of B6 and the 8333% of B12. ” is the only part that could be unhealthy in large doses but i still want to keep taking it over a long period. Is there a way i could offset the side effects? for example maybe eat something before one or drink a whole bottle of water after one?
rough facts:
I mostly drink one each day in the morning(7-8 am), and sometimes but not often drink another in the afternoon around (4 or 5pm). and usually drink none at all over the weekends.
A: The recommended daily dose for B3 is 6mg, .8 for B6, and 30mg for B12. The amount of B3 in a 5 Hour Energy drink is 30mg, 40mg of B6, and 500mcg of B12.
I really don’t think you will have a problem. The B12 is not that high I take 1000mcg a day. B6
Vitamin B6 is usually safe to take for up to 200 milligrams per day. Intakes of more than this recommended dose can lead to neurological side effects. This is caused by the fact that pyridoxine plays a major role in the nervous function in your body. Occasional cases of chest pain, skin rashes, upset stomach, fatigue, loss of appetite and breathing problems have also been reported.
One sure way to avoid side effects is to drink lots of water.
Or you could drink , instead ,a strong cup of premium coffee in place of energy drink..
Good luck
