Q: Can you have B12 deficiency without problems with red blood cells?
Can this happen?
A: Yes you can. Your B12 gets low and the red cell problem is a result of that, so you will get the blood problem eventually without B12. Your B12 has to be low for a while before the hemoglobin is affected. You could be in the early stages of Pernicious Anemia.
Q: In your experience, How is a B12 deficiency (Anemia) treated?
Please only post links that support your answer, I’m more looking for experience than data, I’ve read most of what’s out there.
What were your reactions to the shots or the vitamins? Which worked for you and how long are you going to be on the treatment?
A: B12 injections
Q: If someone has a B12 deficiency are they more likely than others to be deficient in other B vitamins?
A: There may be an occasional example, but overall, no. Mike’s reasoning is sound, but also, most B-12 deficiency isn’t because of a lack of dietary intake, but an autoimmune disorder having to do with intrinsic factor, which is needed for absorption of B-12 but not other vitamins.
Q: is this really b12 or some other deficiency?
18 male uk ,been having twitching all over ( badly in fingers today)like spasms ,nausea and slight dizziness previously that lasted 1 month , muscle and bone pains ,and some tingling in hands and feet with burning sensation over my skin in different places , My doctor suspects a calcium or b12 deficiency , also iv been having neck pain and back ache like burning when i move or sit in odd position and then move my neck ,also when i wake up the doctor said that sound like a “red herring” which i thought was strange
A: B12 deficiency is a prime candidate, and treatment is very easy. My husband has it.
Presumably the GP will have sent off for some blood tests which will help determine the condition.
Wait for those to come back, won’t take long.
Q: Is it more likely for a woman to develop b12 deficiency after giving birth?
I
A: The answer is yes. As with anything, the woman will lose energy, protein, and vitamins during pregnancy and will continue to if she breast feeds. B12 comes from meat and yeast (marmite/vegemite) only, not leafy vegetables (which folate does). You can also get B12 supplements or shots. B12 stays in the body for 2-4 months and it can take a while for stores to replenish after they are low. Talk to your doctor for a very simple B12 blood test if you have any symptoms of B12 deficiency such as lethargy, tiredness, attention problems, tingling in your fingers/toes.
Q: are spots linked to zinc and b12 deficiency?
I’m now 25 and have spots around my mouth chin and temples with a few on my cheeks, not like real spots but more like black heads, ive tried EVERY cream and potion on the market and even antibiotics given by the doctor but still no joy. I was wondering if there was a link between vitamin deficiancy and spots, at 25 im too old for spots and am desperate to get rid of them. any help is greatly recieved.
A: No there isn’t, neither will a ‘bowel cleanse’ make any difference, although a good diet, exercise and de-stressing all help.
A dermatologist will prescribe from a list that includes light therapy, topical lotions containing deep-exfoliating acids, vitamin-A derivatives such as Retin-A, oral antibiotics, the contraceptive pill, androgen hormone-blockers and Roaccutane.
‘Acne is not a simple problem we can identify with one root cause,’ says Alison Bowser, the chief executive of the Acne Support Group If you believe in herbal treatments, go down that route; if you trust in antibiotics, try them. After 15 years of running this group, I can clearly see benefits to both sides.

When I say neuropathy I mean tingling and numbness in hands, feet, or face and mental changes such as confusion, irritability, and depression.
A: Yes. Depression, and the Doctor told me to take a B supplement.
Q: If hair loss occurs due to vitamin deficiency say B12, can it grow back if B12 deficiency removed?
A: Yes, it will grow back if the vitamin deficiency caused it.
Q: Does anyone with B12 deficiency suffer from tremors?
I have been diagnosed with B12 deficiency after having blood work done to confirm diagnosis. I would appreciate feedback if anyone has issues with tremors related to B12 deficiency.
A: Hi Jennifer. I just did a quick search of Medline/Pubmed on this issue. YES, there are cases reported in the medical literature of tremors resulting from a Vitamin B12 deficiency. This is relatively rare and generally improves with proper B12 treatment.
What is the cause of your B12 deficiency? Have you been tested for other nutritional absorption/deficiency problems? You need to take this situation very seriously (even if your doctors don’t).
Best wishes and good luck
Q: Vitamin B12 Deficiency and The Pill?
I am on Levlen ED for oral contraception – I am 26 and have been on this pill since 16.
I have now discovered I have a B12 Deficiency which is not diet related and I am being referred to a specialist for further investigations.
I am curious to know whether the pill would have affected this?
Any advice would be appreciated!
A: I also have b12 deficiency and when I first found out about this I thought it might have something to do with the pill too. I spoke to my doctors about it, and neither thought one thing had anything to do with the other. Talk to both your doctor treating the B12 and your OB and see what they think.
Q: is there a link beween b12 deficiency and milk production in lactating mothers?
A: No, not production.
Though in a study “they” found that nurslings of vegan mothers tend to have a vitamin B12 deficiency. Who knows how accurate that is, but it’s the only thing I’ve ever seen discussing B12 deficiencies and human lactation on the same page.

Q: Can a FBC (full blood count) reveal a b12 deficiency or vitamin problem?
A: FBC is the same CBC. It doesn’t directly measure your B12, but it gives clues to a doctor allowing him to make a differential diagnosis of B12 deficiency. B12 deficiency would present with increased hypersegmented neutrophils and your MCV value will be higher than normal indicating you have megaloblastic anemia (due to folic acid or B12 deficiency).
